THE FACTS

"The best untold story ever"

Based on the book by Richard Pekar, this film tells the incredible true story of Nandor Pekar, Richard’s father, his part in the 1956 Hungarian revolution and his eventual escape to safety in England.

Lion-hearted Nandi Pekar is coming of age in the tumult of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. The war waging within him - of what kind of man he wants to become, mirrors the conflict of the country around him. Will he follow his father's wishes - Get an education, secure a stable career path, and marry the love of his life Maria?  - or join the resistance and risk it all for his country in ways that will change his life forever?

Propelled by a chilling rivalry from his past, we follow Nandi, his school mates at Szanto College and his love as they embark on an arduous journey to Budapest in the Autumn of 1956, confronting the true cost of freedom.

THE CONTEXT

Is it better to live fighting for what you believe in, or die regretting what you could have done?

This will be the first feature film about the 1956 revolution to be told in the English language for a global audience. A story of love, blood and bravery against the backdrop of one of the biggest defining moments in the 20th century.

“October 23rd, 1956, is a day that will live forever in the annals of free people and nations. It was a day of courage, conscience and triumph. No other day since history began has shown more clearly the eternal unquench ability of man’s desire to be free, whatever the odds against success, whatever the sacrifice required.”

US President, John F. Kennedy, on the anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution.
